Covance is seeking aDirector, Alliance Management (Biometrics)to work within ourClinical Data, Analysis, and Reporting Organization department. In this role you will lead the Project Integration department. The department coordinatesData Management, Programming, and Statistics projects, teams, and deadlines and are responsible for client relationship management. This is a permanent, full-time role. Job Primary Functions

  • Work effectively and in harmony to obtain the objectives of Covance as a member of the Project Integration Leadership Team

  • Provide senior support including project management, technical functional input and client liaison to assigned projects

  • Provide support to BD and sales opportunities

  • Remain current with Project Management best practices as maintained by the Project Management Office and disseminate information to all CDARO lead team members

  • Provide mentoring support and direction in training to CDARO lead team members to ensure that core activities (budget management, project planning, status updates) are being consistently understood and delivered across projects

  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the management of other disciplines, particularly those which interact closely with the department, so as to ensure consistency in approach, ongoing cooperation and teamwork, and regular discussion regarding process improvements

  • Support senior management in all aspects of the management and development of the department

  • Build an open and communicative environment in which concerns can be raised and where the input of all is evidently valued

  • Display a positive attitude at all times, promoting and contributing to a good team spirit with a productive and professional environment

  • Work closely with HR to devise recruitment strategies, perform recruitment activities, and achieve a high retention rate

  • Work with training specialists and with other disciplines to ensure all members of the department receive training required to fulfil current role or to develop further, balancing the needs of the individuals against the needs of the business

  • Provide strong leadership to the function, instilling critical values such as teamwork, professionalism, maturity and client focus

  • Carry out line management responsibilities for assigned staff, including Performance Management and Development activities, disciplinary procedures and administrative activities

  • Define performance requirements within the department in terms of competencies, role definitions etc.

  • Serve as technical and project management resource within projects where required by client, project or business needs

  • Prioritize workload within the department and work with CDARO functional heads and leads to meet specified completion dates while maintaining high levels of quality, internal and external client satisfaction, and profitability

  • Ensure the delivery of high quality work to internal and external clients through ongoing quality management and review

  • Ensure the provision to Covance, and to its clients, of appropriate and timely advice on discipline-specific and associated regulatory and business considerations

  • Participate in the development of company-wide initiatives to promote efficient operations and high quality products

  • Ensure that appropriate project coordination tracking and review activities occur within the department on a regular and timely basis with resolution of identified issues

  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills, a proactive approach and the ability to make sound decisions on a regular basis and to communicate these clearly

  • Provide recommendations on, and implementation of, global business strategy for the discipline

  • Represent the department in the development and ongoing review of costing models and supporting documentation

Education / Qualifications

  • BS or BSc in Science, Medical, or related field

  • Knowledge/experience with drug development

  • Knowledge/experience clinical research preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant clinical research experience in a pharmaceutical company/CRO including at least 5 years of project or team leadership within a CDARO function

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong networking abilities and a willingness to work with individuals across the globe

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • Strong ability to inspire and motivate teams to provide solutions and achieve results

  • Strong ability to negotiate and liaise with both internal and external customers

  • Strong IT skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of teams

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities effectively

  • A strong knowledge of the overall clinical trial process and of its application within Covance

  • The ability to apply knowledge to provide consultancy and advice on discipline-specific and wider related issues to staff from other disciplines

  • Full understanding of the roles in the department in order to identify training and development needs, opportunities for optimizing staff utilization, and use of the most efficient practices

  • Strong knowledge of metrics, tools, and processes to manage project budgets

  • The ability to apply practical project coordination solutions

  • A proactive approach to developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff in other disciplines, often in other locations, and in working to achieve consistent standards and processes throughout Covance

  • Interpersonal and effective communication skills; able to communicate appropriately throughout Covance and with clients

  • Cooperative and team-oriented with a proactive approach, anticipating issues and working to ensure they are addressed or resolved as early as possible

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to delegate and prioritize own and others' work

  • Effective negotiation and presentation skills

  • Excellent problem solving skills and a willingness to take ownership of decision-making. The ability to organize and to motivate others

  • A clear understanding of Covance as a business, and its place in the global market

  • The ability to plan and to adapt to changing situations

  • The ability to identify obstacles that may limit the achievement of departmental strategies and objectives and to suggest timely and appropriate contingencies

  • The ability to identify and understand the reasons for actions within the organization

  • The ability to promote a good team environment, providing the client with a high quality service while recognizing Covance's business needs

  • You must be fluent in English language (both verbal and written)
