What we need

Covance is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Director to join their rapidly expanding Genomics Team in Europe and this will be the second key hire in region, forming an essential part of the Global Genomics team.

The Business Development Director will be tasked with generating business by bringing together the extensive portfolio of capabilities from within Covance Central labs and LabCorp specialist labs, to meet the growing complexity of our clients genomics needs.

Our Genomics capabilities which are a key integral part of our broader Biomarkers offering are critical to the success of our client’s pipeline.

The focus on personalized medicine frequently has at its core Genomics so this role is critical to Covance and our client’s success. Integration of genomic endpoints is required from end to end of the drug development continuum. Therefore, this role has a very unique opportunity to work with our Central Laboratory, Early Development and Clinical colleagues in a collaborative way and for mutual benefit.

The successful candidate will enable and facilitate discussions internally and externally from early strategic pre-clinical work, through clinical phases to commercialization. In this latter respect, Covance has world leading ability to build, develop and support diagnostics meaning that this role requires broad awareness and integration of CDx and non-Gx biomarker teams.

About you

We are looking for a home based Business Development Director who can be based anywhere in Europe, ideally near an international airport however we will be flexible with the home base location for the right individual.

We need you to bring extensive understanding of Genomics and its application in drug development.

You are a strong team player with proven interpersonal skills, showing ability to work very closely with colleagues, share leads and form highly effective collaborations.

You bring demonstrable commercial expertise, ideally in a CRO or other Life Sciences environment.

Willingness to travel, around 50% of the role will include visiting clients across Europe with some travel to the US for meetings and conferences

In addition, the ideal candidate should be able to offer:

  • Ability to adapt your style and approach to different audiences internally and externally

  • Experience of presenting to executives and/or senior levels within an organization

  • Able to work autonomously, managing your own priorities in conjunction with those of your colleagues and your clients

  • Ability to develop an existing portfolio of clients as well as developing new and often innovative strategies to identify and develop new clients

  • Capability for prospecting, building a sales pipeline, making concise proposals to customers and closing deals

  • Experience of selling complex, service based products to a sophisticated customer base

  • Master’s degree/PhD or equivalent in life science preferred; Molecular, Cellular, Genetics; technical background preferred

Education / Qualifications
