Let’s Talk About the Job:
As a Senior Study Technician for Animal Operations you will collect, document, and handle pertinent data to follow appropriate SOPs, GLPs and regulatory agency guidelines. This includes: animal observations, test material administration, and clinical sample collection.
All Covance Study Technicians monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AALAC compliance. You will assist in the training and development of new study technicians to ensure that their work is also in compliance.
Key Job Duties Include:
Assess and document clinical observations: body weight data, food consumption data, environmental data, and other data on the appropriate data collection system (or by hand when necessary).
Understand and interpret a complex protocol.
Responsible for conducting the technical phases of specialty studies. (This includes study management, client communication, and quality check procedures)
Identifies and takes appropriate action when there are problems with protocols, SOPs and schedules.
Report all animal care concerns and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action.
May be involved in client tours or client interaction during study initiations.
Mentor new or less experienced staff.
Work conditions for you to know:
There will be some overtime and weekend work.
To ensure your safety, immunizations and screenings are needed.
You may encounter potentially hazardous substances not limited to known potential teratogens or carcinogens and/or radiolabeled test materials.
You will have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
You will be working in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals (i.e. rodents, canine, primates, rabbits, pigs, etc.).
At times, you might work in small or confined spaces.

Bachelor degree in Life Sciences OR Associates degree in Laboratory Animal Technology, or Veterinary Technology
AALAS certification as Laboratory Animal Technician level desirable.
At least two years’ experience in a position similar to a Study Technician.
1 year of laboratory facing general toxicology study management experience.
Proven sustained performance at running complex studies.
Demonstrated the skills necessary to effectively mentor basic lab tasks and study execution.
