Covance Sr Software Architect in Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Overview:

As a key member of the Informatics team, you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions that leverage the latest advancements in data management architectures. You will understand how these technologies deliver business value with efficient and high-performance management of large volumes of clinical and diagnostic data to support rapidly growing operational and medical analytics needs in medicines development. As an experienced data architect and information solution developer you will lead solution architecture, design, and implementation to meet challenging business needs. Responsibilities:

  • Provide technology leadership and contribute to architectural vision for Covance‚Äôs data architecture and data integration strategies.

  • Lead the design, prototyping and development of high-performance, scalable, and maintainable data repositories aligned with Covance healthcare analytics needs.

  • Partner with internal and external clients and provide creative leadership and innovative thinking to translate business and scientific needs into elegant and workable systems.

  • Define formal standards, policies and processes regarding data architecture and data governance.

  • Develop reusable frameworks and scalable approaches for evolving data architecture and integration needs.

  • Participate in the full development cycle from product inception, research and prototyping to release in production.

  • Measurably impact company performance by delivering high quality, scalable data products.

  • Collaborate across a matrix team of developers, data scientists, testing, and production support.

Required:

  • BS/MS in life sciences, computer science, information systems, or similar.

  • 7+ years of expertise in designing and implementing database solutions in support of business analytics and decision support needs using modern relational and non-relational data stores.

  • Proven experience in distributed data solution engineering, understanding of ACID properties and CAP theorem.

  • Extensive, hands-on experience with NoSQL databases such as key-value stores, graph databases, document databases, wide column stores, etc.

  • Expert knowledge of relational databases and SQL.

  • Strong programming skills and experience in implementing and supporting RESTful APIs for data access.

  • Experience with deploying, configuring, and managing systems in both Linux and Windows environments inside firewalls and on the cloud.

  • Demonstrated creative thinking and ability to deliver business analytics solutions.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to lead database development projects with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong written and verbal presentation and a collaborative attitude.

Preferred:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, clinical development and/or healthcare IT, and working knowledge of standard medical terminologies, coding systems and data standards.

  • Expert knowledge of ETL and data governance approaches, tools and design patterns in Informatica, Talend, Spark, or similar.

  • Experience with Hadoop or other distributed data stores.

  • Experience with computer system validation.

Education/Qualifications:

BS/MS in life sciences, computer science, information systems, or similar.
