Job Overview

Reporting directly to a Business Unit IT Director, the Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is responsible for identifying new IT solutions and delivery options that can maximize value to the business, help lower business unit operating costs and optimize the total cost of ownership for business unit IT systems. Based on a sound knowledge of the business unit processes, major platforms and applications the person will work with the business unit to identify solution paths and build consensus towards preferred solutions. Forming a strong partnership with the business users and other IT teams, this person will be required to communicate effectively across many different levels and disciplines both internally and externally. They will be responsible for defining high level scope (requirements, justification, resource/cost estimates and schedule) for new IT opportunities. Working closely with Business Unit IT Director they will help with the prioritization of new project demands against the ongoing project portfolio. They will ensure the project portfolio is effectively managed and kept up to date and assist in the preparation and smooth running of the Business Unit IT Steering Committee (BUITSC).

The person should be constantly keeping abreast of industry software trends, and monitoring the evolution of the existing key operating platforms used within the business unit with a view to optimizing upgrade schedules in line with business demands and needs. They will be a key interface with external suppliers to facilitate the forward thinking strategy of platform evolutions. In addition, they should maintain a strong working knowledge of IT capabilities in particular Business Analysis and High Level Design.


BS/BA degree in scientific, business or technology related field; or AA degree with equivalent related experience in position.


  • Active working experience (10-15 years) in a pharmaceutical, CRO, IT, or related industry.

  • Demonstrated and proven experience in working with customers, identifying/understanding their needs, and formally documenting business requirements.

  • Demonstrated and proven capability to forge strong working relationships with business and IT staff.

  • Strong working knowledge of IT capabilities and industry software trends.

  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle concepts.

  • Experience of business process modeling and design

  • Experience of implementing global IT solutions/technologies within scientific environments.

  • Familiarity with FDA GxP and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.

  • Experience with computer system validation concepts

  • Demonstrated and proven capability to support an organizational culture that fosters teamwork
