Job Overview

Covance Genomics is seeking a Global Sales Director. As Sales Director, you will be responsible for managing a sales team by providing global focus to manage and direct the execution of sales plans and initiatives in support of corporate strategy and objectives. This position will give you overall responsibility for meeting or exceeding annual sales targets. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Primarily responsible for achieving a target and increasing sales within the Covance Genomics environment

  • Lead sales plan execution with constant focus on strategic innovation, process improvement and cross-functional collaboration required to grow the business and secure increased client loyalty

  • Provide leadership to the sales team through coaching, motivation, skill development, product knowledge, industry knowledge, competitive knowledge, performance management, and company knowledge

  • Maintain a diverse and motivated sales team using the appropriate recruitment and employee relations policies

  • Develop business strategy and lead key change management priorities

  • Oversee and implement strategic and tactical account plans

  • Lead and grow pan-Covance commercial integration efforts where appropriate

  • Responsible for ensuring consistent application of proposal efforts and plans, pricing and cost schemes, and technical elements submitted to client

  • Provide strategic direction for project proposal teams

  • Provide strategic direction and input for proactive marketing activities (e.g., presentations, publications)

  • Ensure internal integration has occurred, working with all Client Services team members and interfacing with Scientific and Operational personnel.

  • Assist in the development of the annual sales plan in support of organizational strategy and objectives


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Sales/Marketing, or related field required; Master's Degree or advanced degree desired

  • Strong analytical, time management, negotiating, interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Background and/or experience in the Genomics space a plus

  • Strong executive management leadership skills in either a pharmaceutical or CRO setting in a global, multi-office environment

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire effective teamwork and motivate staff within a matrix organization

  • Ability to establish immediate credibility with business partners and within the company, building consensus and achieving goals through influence versus direct line authority

  • Excellent negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to influence sales decisions

  • Problem analysis and resolution at both strategic and operational level

  • Technical skills in sales planning

  • Strong customer orientation

  • Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities


  • Minimum 4 years of sales management experience, preferably in the Genomics environment.

  • Proven track record of success in leading an experienced sales team

  • Minimum 8 years of successful sales experience in clinical trial management, medical device or related field
