Through our work in Early Development Stage many lifesaving advances in medicine and safety have been drawn from the scientific discoveries made through animal research.

We have an exciting Study Technician position in our Animal Metabolism site in Cumberland, VA. The Animal Metabolism is a laboratory environment focusing on animal’s health and welfare, performing animal husbandry and extensive laboratory work related to Animal Research Studies. Starting pay rate is typically 17.00 with lots of opportunities for OT and growth. Must be able to work rotating weekends as needed and some 8pm blood draws. Duties include but not limited to;

  • Perform daily care of small and large animals including watching for signs of stress or illness, assist with phlebotomy (blood draws) , blood collections and care of animals

  • Participates in the collection of biological specimens. Evaluates and solves problems related to the collection and processing of specimens.

  • Maintains the work flow through the laboratory to ensure completion of processing in a timely manner for all studies assigned to the site, Operates laboratory equipment and recognizes deviations from expected results and follows up appropriately

  • Collection, documentation, and management of pertinent data from animal observations.

  • Handles hazardous materials, reagents and chemicals in a safe manner in accordance to laboratory policy and procedure. Performs a data review of study materials with minimal quality control (QC) findings and understands the level of a quality assurance (QA) audit

  • Performs basic measurements e.g., body weight, food consumption, body temp, behavioral, blood pressure, glucometer, urine, feces

  • Can perform various bleeding techniques, may perform anesthesia/sedation. Extensive training is provided!!! Candidates need to be comfortable working with both small and large animals in a laboratory setting.

What we need from you:

  • Passion for providing excellent care, commitment to quality and dedication to always to the right thing

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

  • Veterinarian Technicians preferred but not required, and/or candidates with 2-3 years of Animal/Clinical Laboratory experience. Additional laboratory experience may be submitted for education requirements.

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals

  • AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is preferred, but not required.

  • Animal Care Experience highly prefer but not required
