Job Overview

Covance is currently searching for an Executive Director of Global Segments, Strategy and Innovation. This critical role will be a leader in our marketing organization, reporting directly to the Senior VP/Global Head of Marketing.

This is a new opportunity which is critical to help drive growth and innovation across the enterprise to proactively partner with Executive and Business Unit Leadership to initiate and drive strategic programs. You will bring solid marketing experience, a strong strategic mindset with creative insights and strong financial/modelling skills. Success will require understanding what type of market data to capture, how best to use that data to uncover new growth opportunities, and the ability to build positive relationships and business cases that engage cross-functional leaders. This collaborative individual will be a motivated self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and is comfortable navigating conflict.

  • Develop and work within a strategic framework to lead cross-functional teams to develop and analyze recommendations on new growth opportunities, prioritizing both the short term and long term impact

  • Collaborate with the Head of Market Research to help design primary research surveys and scan third party data to continually assemble up-to-date market intelligence, Voice of Customer data and insights. This data will be utilized to identify growth opportunities and gaps

  • Develop prioritization mechanism for innovation projects across Covance

  • Lead overall Covance innovation platform and prioritization across the enterprise, re-prioritizing and adding projects as needed

  • Develop tools and standard methodologies for innovation project management and execution

  • Manage innovation project milestones, deliverables, timelines and mitigation strategies (in conjunction with the business unit working teams) developing and sharing progress and metrics

  • Assist in the development and execution of executive presentations, inclusive of business and market analysis and financial models

  • Actively lead, coach and motivate cross-functional project team members

  • Lead and manage a small team

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or related field required

  • MBA strongly preferred

Experience

  • 12+ years in business leadership positions (Director level or above) with a consistent track record of accomplishments in driving innovation and implementing new business opportunities

  • Strong product or service development, launch & lifecycle management experience

  • Strong strategy development and execution experience and orientation with a minimum of 10 years of Marketing/Commercial experience in the healthcare industry

  • Strong understanding of financial modelling and analysis with demonstrated expertise in creation/execution of financial and business models

  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to engage with business partners and executives to drive key decisions

  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex findings to focus on the critical issues and actionable opportunities

  • Strong history of driving innovation and business growth strategies

  • The ideal candidate will be able to see the big, global picture and be willing to roll-up sleeves in order to consistently deliver and exceed expectations

  • Successful history of supervising, motivating and developing a team
